Marie A. Copeland

Marie A. Spangler Copeland, of Jefferson, passed away Friday, January 10, 2014 at the age of 89 years, at Kathy Hospice in West Bend, with her family by her side. She was born April 19, 1924, in Evanston, IL, the daughter of Ewald and Luella Spangler. On September 13, 1947, she married Dr. Quentin E. Copeland in Greendale, WI. Together they enjoyed fifty-eight years of marriage. Quentin and Marie enjoyed traveling and golfing together. They were members of Tuckaway, Meadow Springs and Lake Ripley Country Clubs, where Marie won many golfing honors along with a hole in one at age 65. Marie was an avid bridge player, accomplished piano player, and an excellent cook. She enjoyed working on family genealogy. Her research provided her family with valuable historical information dating back to the 1800’s when the Copeland and Spangler families settled in Jefferson, WI. While raising her family in Greendale, Marie was active in her community, serving as President of The Greendale Women’s Club. In 1984 Quentin and Marie retired to Jefferson, their hometown, where they spent many happy times entertaining family and friends. Marie is survived by her children, Scott (Nancy), Cynthia Ross (Robert), Pat Copeland, Pam (Greg) Reagan, John (Terry), sixteen grandchildren, and thirty-six great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her sister Helenruth (Donald) Shannon, her sister-in-law Anita Copeland, and her nieces and a nephew. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Quentin, her parents, her sister Dorothy Reese, her in- laws, James and Delores Copeland, Margaret Trumbull, Richard Copeland, Edward and Ruth Copeland, and her son-in-law Thomas Feider. The family would like to thank Kathy Hospice for their end of life care for Marie. Family will receive relatives and friends Saturday, January 18 from 9:30 – 11 AM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 324 North Street, Jefferson, WI 53549. Mass of Resurrection will follow at the Church at 11 AM. Fr. Thomas Coyle will officiate. Interment at St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Jefferson. Memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Church, or the Jefferson Historical Society, 317 South Main Street, Jefferson, Wisconsin 53549.
