Stanley Edgar Walters

Stanley “Stan” E. Walters of the City of Juneau passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 8, 2010 at the University of WI Veterans Hospital in Madison, at the age of 87, surrounded by his cherished family. Stan was born on February 8, 1922 to Theodore and Tina (nee Schoffer) Walters in Mountain Lake, MN, where he was also raised. After graduation from high school, he honorably served his country during WWII with the United States Marines. Upon returning from wartime, that he was reintroduced to and fell in love with, his best friend, soul mate, and lifetime dance partner, Luella E. Bay. The couple married in Mountain Lake, MN on October 3, 1947, resided in Brown Deer until the 1980’s, settling in the Neshkoro, WI for some years before finally coming to call Juneau their “home”. Stan worked for Bay Construction for many years before becoming employed at Evinrude Outboard Motor Corp. for 15 years as a machinist, retiring in 1984. Stan and Luella enjoyed their time together by dancing. When they danced together it seemed as if they were truly one, flowing with the many different rhythms they enjoyed. He took time to keep an immaculate garden and especially had a green thumb when it came to his yard in Neshkoro, of which the family enjoyed the many variety of beautiful flowers he grew. He was an avid Western movie buff and thoroughly enjoyed country music. Above all, Stan loved and cherished the time with his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He often swam and played “shark” under the pier with the grandchildren. The whole concept of family ties and their love meant the world to him, and still does to Luella. He is a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church of Juneau. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, a sister; Marcella Dunlavey and brother; Dennis and one grandson; Brian Holy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Luella of Juneau. Cherished father of Steven of Sheboygan, Randall “Rocky” (Special Friend JoAnne) of Waukesha, Barry “Rusty” (Robin) of Milwaukee, Larry (Debbie) of Grafton, Theodora “Teddy” (Eddie) Thimm of Sussex, Kristine (Jim) Holy of Iron Ridge, and Jackie (Dean) Monty of AZ. Adored grandfather of 17 and great grandfather of nineteen. Loving brother of Bill (Penny) of Oklahoma, Eugene and LeRoy, both of Minnesota. Further survived by nieces, nephews, numerous in-laws on Luella’s side, other relatives, and friends. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, January 13th at 12 noon at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home of Juneau with Pastor Paul Hirsch officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service (noon). Interment will follow at Hustisford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family would be appreciated.
