Maureen Johannah Whelan

Whelan, Maureen J. “Sr. Ramondine” Born to Eternal Life on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the age of 76 years. She was born August 17, 1933, the daughter of Raymond and Gertrude (nee Burke) Whelan, who preceded her in death at an early age. Beloved cousin of Rita (Don) Hanrahan and their family, John (Carol), Mariah & Ethan; Timothy (Stacey), Quinlan & Norah; Thomas (Margaret), Paul & Carolyn; Daniel (JoAnn), Mikaela & Morgan. Further survived by cousins from the Lynch, Whelan, Grady, Burke and Townsend families and by Godson Kevin Gerwells and his family. Maureen received her early education at St. Kilian’s Catholic School in Hartford. Upon completing the eighth grade, she entered the School Sisters of St. Francis Convent in Milwaukee, where she took her final vows. She received her Master’s Degree in Music from the University of Oregon at Eugene. Maureen was an accomplished violinist, pianist and organist, having been trained at Alverno High School and Alverno University by the School Sisters of St. Francis. She taught music and was the church organist and choir director in Chicago, Hales Corners and Slinger. After leaving the Convent, she taught music in Milwaukee and at Shady Lane School in Menomonee Falls until her multiple sclerosis forced her to retire in 1983. Visitation will be held Friday, May 28, 2010 from 4-6 PM at St. Kilian’s Catholic Church, Hartford. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6 PM at the Church. Rev. David LaPlante will officiate. Interment 10 AM Saturday at St. Kilian’s Cemetery. A special thank you to the Cedar Lake Community of West Bend for the loving care, respect and help Maureen received these past ten years. The family extends many thanks to Dr. Gregory Harrington for his wisdom and caring for Maureen. She felt blessed by his care and always spoke very highly of him. Maureen will be remembered for her love for children, her Catholic faith and her love of her Irish heritage.
