Lucille H. Yaeger

Lucille “Lucy” Henrietta May Yaeger, of Slinger, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at the age of 100 years. She was born May 28, 1911 in Cumberland, WI, the daughter of Charles and Lydia (Whiteford) Miller. She married Westley Yaeger on January 24, 1931 in Ladysmith, WI. Lucille was very active in her church and always ready and willing to offer a hand. She loved to play Bridge and also competed with her mother in the county fair with her baked goods and preserves. In 1944 they moved the family to Milwaukee, where they continued to raise their three children. She worked at Globe Union and AC Sparkplug during these lean years. Finally, in 1967, they built her dream house in Slinger. She loved her yard and would do anything for her precious birds. Lucy loved nature of all sorts and was always planting or growing something. She also continued her passion for card playing and Scrabble well into her 90’s. Her truest passions were her family and friends. Lucy loved having family around and treated everyone as though they were special. Spending time with them brought her joy, whether it be talking about the old days or gently teaching a great-grandchild how to crochet. She also loved making pies and baking bread. If you knew Lucy, you probably would have had something she had crocheted, baked, or harvested in your hands before you said goodbye. Her last years were spent at Autumn Oaks where she shared her love of God and her wonderful smile with those around her. The family would like to offer special thanks to the staff at Autumn Oaks, Columbia St. Mary’s Horizon Hospice, Community Care, as well as Rev. Michael Helwig for their care and support. Preceding her in death were her husband Westley Yaeger, son James Yaeger, son Robert Yaeger, daughter-in-law Shirley (James) Yaeger, and five siblings. Her loving and devoted family surviving are her daughter, Pat (Dale) Anderson, daughter-in-law Margaret (Robert) Yaeger, sister Lois Blesi, sister Irma Herron, sister-in-law Beth (Uline) Miller, eight grandchildren, 13 great- grandchildren , nine great- great-grandchildren and many more relatives and friends. Lucille’s wishes were for a grave side service, which will be Thursday, May 10, at 1 PM at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford, officiated by Rev. Michael Helwig.
