Herman R. Palmer

Herman R. Palmer of Kewaskum, formerly of Woodruff, WI was granted eternal peace on Thursday, January 12, 2012 at the age of 93, with his loving family surrounding him. Herman was born on January 1, 1919, the son of Herman D. and Muriel nee Hagen in Hartford, where he was also raised. He was a graduate with the Class of 1937 at the Hartford City High School (n.k.a. Hartford Union High School) formerly located next to the Mill Pond, at the site where the Jack Russell Memorial Library is currently located. He had a passion for music and was an accomplished musician at a young age, studying flute at the Wisconsin College of Music. He was a member of the Palmer Family Quartet that played in the Hartford area, including the former outdoor band shell, of which his own father designed. His father, Herman D. Palmer, was also a partner on the invention/design of the Kissel Car. Herman completed a four year apprenticeship in Tool & Die with the Cutler-Hammer Company of Milwaukee in 1942. His love for the outdoors took him on many adventures, including his hand at working with the Forestry Department and a move from his hometown to the north woods, Woodruff, WI. He was employed as a Tool & Die maker for the Pukall Lumber Company, retiring in 1984. Rest was never in his bones with all the activities to do outdoors, of which included hunting and fishing every chance he got. Herman’s admiration for nature was superseded only by his love for animals, especially his dogs. Herman was a member of the NRA, The Church of the Pines of Woodruff and a former member of the First United Methodist Church of Hartford. Herman is survived by his cherished nieces and nephews, Tammy (Joe) Nordman of West Bend, Mark Ritter of Hustisford, Wendy Hug of McKinney, TX, Paul M. (Joyce) Palmer of Anchorage, AK and Cheri Ritter of Deerbrook, WI; great nephews, Zachary (Cynthia) Moran of Los Angeles, CA and Samuel Nordman of West Bend. Preceded in death by his parents, his siblings; Muriel Jean (Paul) Ritter and Frederick Scott (Marcella) Palmer and one nephew; Paul David Ritter. Further survived by other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be on Monday, January 16th at 7:00 p.m. at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home Chapel of Hartford with Rev. Paul Johnsen officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until the time of service (7:00 pm.). Interment will take place on Tuesday, January 17th at 10:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
