Darrell Lloyd Grebe

Darrell Lloyd Grebe, of Sun City, AZ, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2012 at a Hospice in Arizona. He was born in Wausau, WI on September 13, 1923, one of six children born to Walter and Minnie Grebe. He had four sisters, Margaret, Carolyn, Ruth and Donna, and one brother, Gilbert. When Darrell turned 21, he left Wausau and moved to Milwaukee, living with his sister Margaret. Throughout the years, Darrell lived with some of his siblings and other relatives. He even moved to California near his cousin Elroy. While there, Darrell worked at a large bakery. After moving back to Wisconsin, he worked at the Wisconsin Club as head pastry chef. The spirit of change came upon him, and he went to work at Westmoor Country Club as head pastry chef. While there, he met his beloved wife of 50 years, Ann. On January 13, 1962, they were married. Since Westmoor was a seasonal job, Darrell decided to seek employment at Crestwood Bakery in West Allis. He remained there until his retirement in September 1985. Darrell and Ann had one daughter, Patricia Ann, born August 30, 1962. She was a little girl of 4 pounds 15 ounces, being six weeks premature. Patricia was his pride and joy. Today she is a Cardiac Rehab nurse at Waukesha Memorial Hospital. Upon his retirement, Darrell moved to Arizona. Shortly after the move, another person came into his life, Alan Davies, his beloved son-in-law. Alan is also in the nursing profession, as the Emergency Services Coordinator at Aurora Summit. Darrell enjoyed many years of retirement in the Sun Cities area, and he was involved in many volunteer projects. No matter who it was or what project they were doing, Darrell was always there to help and give his all. On Wednesday, March 21, 2012, the Lord decided it was time for Darrell to come home to be with Him. Darrell accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at an early age, and has served Him in many ways. He was on the Evangelism Committee, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and the Men’s Chorus, fed the homeless at a shelter and served as an Usher. Wherever the Lord sent him, Darrell went and was happy to serve. He led a life of obedience and love for his Lord and Savior. Darrell is with Him now. We who remain will miss Darrell greatly, but know he is at peace with the Lord. Darrell leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Ann Grebe, his daughter Patricia Davies, son-in-law Alan Davies, sisters Carolyn Paepke, Ruth Retterrath, Donna (Randy) Wedig, sister-in-law Kay Grebe, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Darrell also leaves behind his constant companion and faithful friend Cindy, a Manchester Terrier who was always by his side. Family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, May 5, 2012 from 10:30 – 11:30 AM at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home. Memorial Service will follow at the Funeral Home at 11:30 AM. Rev. Jeremy Husby will officiate. Memorials to the Arizona Humane Society or the charity of your choice would be appreciated. The Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home is serving the family.
